What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine and is based on balancing
the flow of qi—or life energy—through the body. The idea behind
acupuncture therapy is that many conditions can be traced back to a blockage
of the flow of qi in a particular region of the body.
Acupuncture treatments near Corona may help treat everything from chronic pain to insomnia and migraines.
During acupuncture, very thin needles are inserted into your skin at specific
places on your body. The placement of the needles depends on the nature
of your complaints. The needles are intended to disrupt blockages along
your meridians, the pathways on which qi travels throughout your body.
Because the needles are so thin, most people do not experience any discomfort
during insertion. After the needles are in place, the acupuncturist may
gently move the needles or apply electrical pulses. The needles are usually
left in place for 10 to 20 minutes. Your acupuncturist will work with
you to determine how many treatments you need to achieve the best symptom relief.
