ACUPUNCTURE
How to Prepare For Your First Visit
Here are some tips and reminders to help you maximize your experience with acupuncture:
- Dressing for Treatments: Comfortable, casual clothing is best for your treatments. I will be taking your pulse and palpating the different reflex zones in your abdomen during intake, so you may be asked to remove any jewelry around your wrists (e.g.: watch or bracelet) and lifting up your shirt for better assessment. Most of the time you will also be asked to remove your shoes and socks, as well as roll up your pants to be above knee level and sleeves above the elbow before the treatment. Loose, layered clothing with shorts or tank-top underneath is an option. If you are coming from work or need to be in professional attire, please be prepared to change into a patient gown at the beginning of a treatment.
- Eating: It is recommended that you eat a light meal or snack before your treatment, especially if you suffer from fluctuations in blood sugar. Avoid heavy, greasy, protein/carbohydrate-rich meals at least 30 minutes before your appointment.
- Tongue Coating: An important part of diagnosis in Chinese Medicine is examining the tongue coating as a reflection of the current metabolic conditions of the body. To ensure a proper reading during your examination, please remember to refrain from brushing your tongue on the morning of the treatment.
- List of Medications: If you are currently taking numerous supplements and medications, you are welcome to bring a list so we may have it on file and refer to it as needed.
- Length of Treatments: Please allow 90 minutes for your appointment if you are a new patient, and 45-60 minutes if you are a returning patient. If your condition is complicated, please allow enough time for extra modalities to be done. If you need to be out by a specific time, please let me /front desk personnel know before the treatment begins.
